Aunt Lizzie's was born a couple of years ago after deciding that I wanted to share my passion for sewing and quilting with anyone that was interested enough to stop and look at what I had made. I have been sewing and quilting for over 65 years. It all started when I was a very young child. I sat at my Grannies feet and cut blocks for her while she pieced quilts. We would work on them in the afternoon when it was too hot to do anything else. Then in the fall after all of the garden work was done and the hogs that Daddy and Grandpa slaughtered for our winters meat was worked up, Grannie and Momma would put a quilt in the frame and we would quilt all of the quilts that we had pieced in the summer. They let me quilt as far as I could reach and never took one of my stitches out, even though they were a long way from being perfect. One day Grannie decided that we should try to piece a quilt on the old treadle sewing machine and that was really fun. My legs were too short to sit in the chair and peddle so I would set on the floor and peddle while Grannie did the sewing. Pappy Hanes (my greatgrandpa) always kept a path shoveled, when it snowed, from our house so I could go to Grannies house every day. Momma was a great teacher in sewing also. She could hardly wait for Daddy to read the newspaper so she could have it to cut a pattern to make something for me and my two brothers. I continued to sew through out my childhood and teen years. I was so excited when I finally had a family so I could make their clothing like Momma did for us.
After a very rewarding career I have gotten back to my roots and enjoy the beauty of a finished quilt or anything that I can create sewing. When I get stumped on how to do something now I have a new teacher, my daughter, who also has a passion for sewing and quilting.
Thank's for visiting and happy quilting.
